'Cause I wanna feel the thunder -- I wanna scream

Name: Neville Augustus Longbottom
Nickname: Nev, Nevi
Birthday: July 30, 1980
Former House: Gryffindor
Age: 26
Blood: Pureblood
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Occupation: Greenhouse Intern, London

Hometown: Lancaster, Lancashire
Left/Right/Ambi: Right
Wand: Originally uses father's wand until it breaks his 5th year during the raid on the Ministry of magic. He obtains a new wand of cherry and unicorn hair.
Pet(s): He has a toad named Trevor, who used to escape from him during his first years at Hogwarts, but currently is calm and fairly happy while with Neville. His Great uncle Algie gave Trevor to Neville after he discovered Neville was not a Squib.
Accent: Take a listen

Personality: Neville can be described as quiet, shy but friendly, clumsy and honest. Neville is often quiet but speaks up when he feels something is unfair, especially when it deals with his friends and loved ones. He is not the best wizard ever, but he still practices everyday to get better at certain spells and hexes. When he was younger, his family feared he was a squib, but he soon proved to them that he could actually perform magic, even though it was weak. On the outside, he doesn't seem to be very brave, not quite Gryffindor material, but on the inside, Neville has a heart of gold and will go to any lengths to try and save his friends and those in trouble.

While in school, Neville was usually the shy boy who sat in the back of the class hoping the teachers wouldn't notice him and call on him for an answer. He never trusted in his abilities and knowledge of magic, even though he was quite strong in magic when he did feel confident. Neville is usually the type of person who will not walk up to someone he doesn't know and start up a conversation. He does talk to his friends and family, but it is usually someone else who has to start the conversation. However, he will initiate a conversation if he needs to ask a question or is just curious about something. For the most part though, he tries to keep to himself and just observes things in his surroundings. He doesn't like confrontations of any kind, and if someone is trying to pick a fight with him, he will just walk away.

However, Neville's caring side comes into play if someone tries to pick a fight with one of his friends or family members. It is at this point that Neville will do pretty much anything to protect his loved ones. It is the only time when he isn't shy in the least. He doesn't care if someone tries to hurt him, but if someone goes after someone he loves with the motive to hurt that person, Neville will react defensively to the situation. He isn't the argumentative type but does have the ability to fight back if it came down to it. He won't pick a fight, but he sure will finish one.

Neville dislikes liars. He tends to always be honest about everything and doesn't see lying as an option in many situations unless there are moral implications involved of course. For the most part though, he has the ability to get along with most people. He respects his elders and values his close friendships. He is a loyal and caring friend, whose courage usually expresses itself when someone he loves or cares about is in danger.

Neville is probably the clumsiest person ever. If something has happened, you can almost bet your life it has happened to, because of or around Neville. He has buttery fingers, toes; you name it, he's got it. If he's holding something made of glass, it will shatter. And if there's some sort of foreign substance on any surface floor, he will slip on it. Neville has often times wondered if he's unlucky or something, because it takes a lot of practice for him to get something done right. Neville also tends to forget things easily. He usually keeps his Remembrall with him... unless he forgets it of course.

One possible reason as to why Neville is so clumsy is because he is so impatient. If something doesn't immediately work out for him, he will start freaking out, which usually causes everything and everyone around him to freak out. He is usually calm except for when he really wants something to work. He can get really nervous, really fast and will start flailing his arms around wildly. This usually ends in things falling and exploding all around him.

Neville has very strong views on what is right and what is wrong, which make him capable of being a great leader. However, he prefers to be more of a follower, as that is how he is most useful. Due to his loyalty, Neville will usually follow orders immediately and almost without question, unless of course it's some really outlandish thing. For the most part, Neville doesn't trust very many people, because events in his life have made him paranoid that someone is going to hurt one of his loved ones.

During the war, Neville was able to sharpen his skills and now has more control over his body than before. He's still as clumsy as ever, though he's learned to deal with himself and can fix just about anything he breaks. He's also grown in his knowledge of defensive spells. The war managed to keep him on the move, which allowed him to trim off some excess baby fat he had as a young boy. He's not the leanest, fittest bloke around, but at least he's not the pudgy little first year his friends once knew.

Biography: Neville comes from a long line of Purebloods, whom are even connected to The Noble and Most Ancient House of Black. Harfang Longbottom married Callidora Black, daughter of Arturus Black. The Longbottoms had long since resided in Lancaster, Lancashire, England. They had occupied the area long before Harfang was even born and decided it was the best place to stay even after Harfang's death in order to avoid the Muggle persecution of Wizards. As the years passed, the Longbottoms began dying out. Some of them were born as Squibs, whereas others could not even conceive a child. This was, without a doubt, a product of the inbreeding that had occurred within the family.

Centuries passed, and Oliver Longbottom was born. After meeting a feisty girl by the name of Augusta Logan, he instantly fell in love with her and asked to marry her. They had a son, whom they named Frank Longbottom. Frank grew up a happy child, though always under the scrutiny of his strong-willed mother. Early on in his life, he showed abilities in magic, for which his parents were thankful for. They weren't sure their son was actually going to be a Wizard. Luckily, Frank pulled through for them and was accepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, later sorted into Gryffindor.

Here, he would meet a young lass by the name of Alice Wilkes. Being in the same year and in the same House proved an advantage for the pair. They became fast friends and eventually began dating during their last year at school, having been in many of the same classes. Afterward, they both underwent Auror training and were soon married. Upon becoming fully fledged Aurors, Frank and Alice aided the Ministry in searching out dangerous Death Eaters and also joined a group of their friends in the fight against Voldemort. This group was called The Order of the Phoenix. By the time Alice and Frank had survived three different encounters with Voldemort, Alice found that she was pregnant.

Being born in the midst of a raging war does not sound like a typical, picturesque setting for a newborn baby. However, this was how Neville Longbottom's life began. A constant struggle to survive always dominated his life from the moment he first opened his eyes. Dumbledore had heard of a prophecy that pointed out a newborn baby, one whose parents had evaded capture from the Dark Lord thrice and one whose birthday fell at the end of the month of July. Fearing the worst for their son, Alice and Frank had hidden their baby and themselves from the evil people who wanted to hurt them. Unfortunately, they would be sought out and tortured into complete and utter insanity.

To say that Neville's life drastically changed at that moment in time is to speak a horrible lie. Neville's life had always been a tumultuous one, even though he had not been alive for such a long time. It is true, however, that Neville's life would not be the life of any ordinary boy. From the moment his parents were taken to St. Mungo's, Neville was in the care of his grandmother, a stern woman, one of whom Neville had always been deathly afraid of. She was suave and reeked of prestige and honor, and Neville was nothing more than a clumsy, chubby, little boy, who never thought he would be good enough to make her proud.

Neville hadn't shown signs of being a wizard at an early age like his father had. In fact, he was showing more signs of being a Squib than anything else. Augusta, Oliver, Enid and Algie all tried to toss Neville into situations in which he had to use his magical abilities to get himself out of danger. However, Neville always seemed to keep getting hurt, and his magical abilities had not been "awakened" at all. They seemed to still be very much dormant. Yet, his family members continued to insist that he be placed in these awkward situations more often. His magical abilities would eventually awaken the more he tried to use them, right?

When Neville was seven years old, his grandfather, Oliver Longbottom became very sick with Dragon Pox. Normally, Dragon Pox is an easily curable disease. However, in the case of Neville's grandfather, he was quite old, and wasn't reacting well to the potions he was receiving. One day, Neville went up to check on his grandfather. He seemed to have been doing better the day before, but when Neville stepped into his room, Oliver didn't look any better. In fact, he was very quiet and would hardly even move. Neville sat down at his bedside and continued to watch his grandfather, until the moment he took his final breath. This is the reason Neville can see Threstrals.

As Neville continued to grow and develop, his Great Uncle Algie was increasingly becoming worried about the state of Neville's magical abilities. He was not about to settle for Neville being a Squib. He doubled his efforts to try and catch Neville off-guard in order to test his magical abilities. There were several instances Neville remembers vividly, such as the time he was pushed off the Blackpool Pier and nearly drowned. That one was particularly frightening, since Neville didn't really know how to swim very well.

Then, there was that fateful night when Uncle Algie was hanging Neville out the upstairs window, and he accidentally dropped him. Luckily, Neville was able to bounce all the way down the garden and into the road. This was cause for great rejoicing in the Longbottom family! Neville was not a Squib, and he would be attending Hogwarts eventually. The Longbottoms were beyond ecstatic, especially Uncle Algie, who ran off to buy Neville a toad in celebration. Neville named the toad Trevor, and he became one of Neville's first friends.

Upon turning eleven, Neville received his Hogwarts letter and was whisked away on the train. His sorting took a bit of time, but then the Sorting Hat happily proclaimed, "Gryffindor!" It was here that Neville was to meet his truest friends. His dorm mates were like the brothers he never had. Hermione was like the sister he never had. Of course, there were those who didn't get along with Neville as well. There was Draco Malfoy, whom Gran had told Neville all about his family and that crooked father of his. "Ruining the Ministry," she would say. And Draco's goons, Crabbe and Goyle were always a most charming sight to behold. Except not. It was during this first year that Neville received his Remembrall and also the year he helped Gryffindor win the House Cup with some last minute points.

Second year would have been a bit quieter had there not been a giant, deadly snake crawling through the plumbing system and petrifying all the muggleborns. It was true that Neville was not a muggleborn wizard. However, some of his friends were. Hermione Granger, probably the only person he could count on when he needed help with his school work, was a muggleborn and was also eventually petrified. Neville hated seeing Hermione so helpless in the Hospital Wing. This, among other things such as the state of his parents’ health, slowly began to mold Neville's opinions on blood purity and the Dark Lord.

Third year would have been a calmer year had there not been soul sucking demon monsters "guarding" the school as well as a "prisoner" on the loose. For the most part though, Neville was not affected by this incident, save practically giving Sirius Black all the passwords of Gryffindor Tower and therefore having to sleep in the Great Hall as the teachers searched the perimeters for the escaped fugitive. Oh yes, his boggart turned into Snape, and he Riddiculus'd it away by thinking of Snape in his grandmother's clothing. He was also taught by a werewolf. A nice one though!

The summer before fourth year was the Quidditch World Cup. Neville was not in attendance, because his grandmother could not afford the tickets, and Uncle Algie said it was a lame sport anyway. It was probably a good thing too, considering what happened the night of the game. Fourth year for Neville had some exciting ups and some plunging downs. First, Hogwarts was hosting the Triwizard Tournament. Neville was a bit frightened when Harry was chosen by the Goblet of Fire. However, he did get to help Harry for the second task. Then, there was the Yule Ball, where Neville danced the night away with Ginny. Unfortunately, Cedric Diggory had been murdered, and rumors flew around that Voldemort had returned.

The following year, Neville prepared to take his OWLs. He also joined an organization at Hogwarts formed by Harry Potter and company called Dumbledore's Army. This was where he first got to know Luna Lovegood. They had met on the train at the beginning of that year, but her joining the DA allowed for Neville to actually speak with her. They were both part of the group that accompanied Harry to the Ministry of Magic on that fateful night. They had all gotten hurt, but Neville was still on his feet right alongside Harry until the end.

The next year was a bit of a blur for Neville. He knew he had done fairly well on his OWLs and had entered into some rather difficult NEWT level classes. The thought of the DA reforming always kept him going, and his desire to join the Order of the Phoenix like his parents had never faltered or left him. Neville took Dumbledore's death very hard, and it was quite difficult to move on and go back to school for his last and final year at Hogwarts without him. However, Neville was determined to finish off his magical education even if it was the last thing he ever did.

If all the othe years at Hogwarts were bad for Neville, seventh year was probably the worst. It was as if he wasn't in school at all. The school had turned into a battlefield with the Carrows going on about how awful Muggles and Muggleborns were. Neville simply could not take this outrage and would lash out at the Carrows, defending Muggles and Muggleborn despite the horrible punishments he would receive afterward. He didn't care though. He knew what they were doing was wrong, and he didn't much approve of Snape being Headmaster either. The punishments got to be so hard that Neville had to seek refuge inside the Room of Requirement. It was here that he met Dumbledore's brother, and he began to hide people inside the Room.

Of course, he fought in the Battle of Hogwarts, that legendary battle that many say will go down in Wizarding history. Neville remained loyal to his school, to Dumbledore, to his friends and family, but most especially to Harry. It was Harry's plan to leave three people in charge of keeping up the fight after he was gone, and Neville was one of those people. Harry had instructed Neville to go after the snake, and in true Gryffindor fashion, Neville was able to pull the sword out of the Sorting Hat and defeat Voldemort's snake, unknowingly destroying the last horcrux.

However, Neville didn't see himself as a hero. He always considered Harry to be the hero, and all he, Neville, ever really did was what he thought was the right. Ever the modest one, Neville still to this day claims that everything Harry did for their world was greater than his moment of bravery, even though that was the highlight of his life.

Eventually, he graduated and secured a position as an intern at a local greenhouse in London. It was here where Neville was most useful after the war, raising and caring for plants that were later used to save the lives of many who were injured during battle. Some years later, he became the Head of that greenhouse, though he is still unsure as to how that came about. Sure, he was a pretty brilliant Herbologist, but his time spent as an Intern was nothing but one explosion after another. It seemed that despite being a war hero of sorts, Neville's clumsiness hadn't changed very much.

Likes: Neville enjoys reading about Herbology and magical plants of any sort. He can usually be seen outside in the gardens or in the Herbology Greenhouses. Plants had always fascinated him, and he doesn't mind getting his hands dirty every once in a while. Neville also discovered music during his fourth year. He couldn't carry a note with his voice or play any sort of instrument to save his life, though he became rather fond of dancing, even though he wasn't exactly great at it. He does continue to learn about music every single day.

Dislikes: Neville just about loathes Potions. On top of the fact that he's horrible at it, Professor Snape wasn't exactly a motivating factor in his getting better. He also hates it when people talk about the Cruciatus Curse, because it makes him uncomfortable thinking about what his parents went through. He had a minor meltdown during fourth year after Moody (read: Barty Crouch Jr) showed the class the Unforgivables.

Strengths: Neville can always be trusted. He is loyal and true to his friends and loved ones. Even though he is not the most powerful wizard, he is determined to succeed. Yes, he will fail, and yes, he will feel bad about it. However, he will eventually pick himself back up and try again. He is extremely persistent and hardworking. If anyone asks Neville for a favor, bet on the fact that he will try his best to come through for that person. He doesn't like letting his friends and loved ones down, and he fights against his clumsiness daily in order to become a better person.

Weaknesses: Neville is physically weak. He was never the type of person to enjoy physical activity and was always rather large in size. As the years progressed, Neville's size diminished, yet he still remained physically unfit. Neville often gets discouraged by his failures and instinctively starts feeling sorry for himself. He blames all the faults of the world on himself, sort of like a self scapegoat. His self-esteem is very low, as he doesn't always trust in himself and his abilities. He doubts himself way too much, which makes him hesitant and stagnant when coming to a decision. He is also a bit stubborn. When he finally does come to a decision, he will try and stick to it as best as possible.

Allegiance: Neville has always been against Voldemort, despite his being a Pureblood. His parents fought mercilessly against Voldemort during the First War via the first establishment of the Order of the Phoenix. His grandmother was always an activist before and after her son and his wife were tortured into insanity. Neville grew up in an atmosphere of a generally Anti-Voldemort sentiment. In school, he teamed up with Harry Potter and company, joining organizations like Dumbledore's Army in order help stop Voldemort and his evil ways. Neville continues to believe Voldemort's views are completely wrong, and he would never support his cause no matter what happens.
